Euroguidance Conference - 3/12/2018
Although economic growth is a very positive contributor to the country’s economy, it is also highlighting a deficit and shortage when it comes to skills and employees to fill in the skills required for certain jobs. The introduction of ‘My Journey’ purposely aims at targeting this shortage by introducing vocational and applied learning in the educational curriculum and offering students subjects that are closely linked to the world of work. The keynote speaker for this conference, Ing Vince Maione addresses this issue by discussing on how this new vision towards learning can help address the skills shortage. This was followed by a panel discussion from various stakeholders from the education and employment sector who engaged in a debate on the perceived impact of ‘My Journey’ on education and employment. |
Euroguidance Conference - 4/12/2017
21st-century skills, future workforce and the role of education, skills for the future, these are the main topics of debate that are being discussed at International and local levels. The Keynote speech for this conference addressed by Professor Vincent Cassar, who sought to reflect on these changes. Different stakeholders from the education and employment sector added further value to this conference by providing their input on what is their role when it comes to preparing the future workforce in such a dynamic and complex labour market. The workshops added further insight to the discussion by looking at the perspective of the front liners which involved educators and representatives from the public employment sector. |
Europass Conference - 9th June 2017
A Europass Conference was held on Friday 9th June in collaboration with EUPA and NCFHE. The aim of this conference was to provide career guidance practitioners with information on the use of the Europass Diploma Supplement and how these can be used when seeking employment. The MCGA also presented the preliminary findings on research related to the professionalization of career guidance. The Conference ended in workshops whereby participants had the opportunity to discuss the role of the European Qualifications Framework, the future of Europass amongst other related topics. |
Training Sessions for Practitioners.
Throughout the years, MCGA has organised a number of continuous professional development sessions for the local practitioners in Malta. A number of internationally recognised speakers have participated in these sessions. Furthermore, the topics discussed were chosen carefully so that the needs of the local practitioners and members of MCGA were addressed. |
Euroguidance Annual Conference - 12th December 2016
The professionalisation of the career guidance workforce has been an aspiration for many countries. The extent to which this has been successful has varied, for most countries there has been partial success as elements of professionalisation have been established. In the keynote speech delivered by Dr Siabhan Neary , Head of iCeGS (Acting), outlined the 8 factors that contribute to professionalising the workforce. To explore how professionalisation is working, examples from other countries including the UK were used. Further Insights on Professionalising the sector: A number of stakeholders engaged in an interactive discussion concerning the key challenges faced by stakeholders in the field when professionalising the sector. The audience was encouraged to participate in the discussion by asking questions and sharing their experiences regarding the topic. |
Call for Research Interviewers
The Malta Career Guidance Association (MCGA) will be undertaking research in order to investigate how best to approach professionalising the career guidance sector. The first part of the research will involve conducting interviews with key stakeholders in the field of career guidance. Applicants must possess a Level 7 qualification in the area of career guidance (or related field); a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in the education or employment sectors and skills in interviewing techniques. The selected candidate will be expected to undertake a minimum of 4 interviews. He/she will also be expected to analyse the interviews and identify the themes which emerge from the interviews with stakeholders. All interviewers will be expected to participate in a focus group discussion in order to discuss the overall common themes. Interview data must be handed in by mid December 2016. Eligible candidates are invited to submit their expression of interest to perform such tasks by not later than 4th November 2016.
